I remember when I first had the idea for a support group, I told my friends about my dreams on how the website would include factual information, a surgeons directory, reviews and an online forum, where women could come together and experience a supportive cosmetic surgery centered community.
A support community is important for so many reasons. Taking part and sharing teaches compassion and understanding. One of my favorite things about the new ‘Cosmetic Surgery Social Community’ is that there are so many opportunities for you; to share, to learn, to make new friends and there is always someone to talk to about the decisions you have ahead of you. I want to show you the main reasons why a support community is so vital when it comes to cosmetic surgery.
A support Community Creates Courage
It’s so important that we remember that community will always create confidence, and isolation will only feed fear. “Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: ‘What! You, too? Thought I was the only one.’” So let’s step out of the shadows, allow other women to know us, and receive a huge dose of courage.
I am the first to admit that when I first started looking at breast augmentation back in 1998, I had no idea what to look for, it was a very uncertain scary time for me. That’s why when I had revision surgery in early 2010 I made the decision to make sure I was informed this time around. I joined an online community and found a lot of the information conflicting, so the research started and I created Breast Implant Advice.
A support Community Creates Wisdom
Just like the old Proverb says, “In the multitude of counsel, there is wisdom.”
We all know that the more advice we get, the better decisions we end up making – especially when it comes to a subjective topic like cosmetic surgery. Taking the time to consider multiple women’s experiences and viewpoints about their cosmetic surgery journeys will help you make the best choice for you.
A support Community Creates Joy
One of life’s simple truths, “It’s better to give than to receive.”
When we are generous with our honesty and openness, we naturally receive joy and happiness as a result. And one of my favourite things about vulnerability is that it’s contagious. I’ve personally experienced this, and it’s an amazing feeling when you realize how much of a difference your voice made in someone’s life.

Always remember to show kindness and compassion for others. Plastic surgery makes someone an easy target for accusations of superficiality and indulgence, we should always recognize and respect other peoples choices.
